Jackson State forced the tying run in the top of the seventh, but TSU wasted no time scoring the winning run in the bottom half of the inning.
Pinch-hitter Kelsey Riley led off the bottom of the seventh with a single, and then moved to second on pinch-hitter Emma Ortiz' bunt single. The next batter, Ebony Wiltz, also knocked a bunt single, moving the runners up a base. A throwing error on the play allowed Riley to come home with the winning run.
Texas Southern opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning when Terren Vinson's two-out RBI single scored Marissa Padron from third base. Padron started the inning with a leadoff double.
Starting pitcher Destiny Ricks pitched six innings for TSU, striking out four batters while scattering four hits and four walks. Bailey Daniels pitched the seventh inning and picked up the win for the lady tigers.
Tevanae Tate had both of TSU's hits in the game, none bigger than her solo home run to right field in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Naomi Reyes tossed a two-hit shutout for the Lady Tigers in the team's second full game of the day. Reyes struck out six batters and walked only one, and retired the side in order in four of the seven innings she pitched.
