Jones Elevated To Assistant Coach, Director of Player Development

The Texas Southern men’s basketball team has announced the hiring of former player John Jones to the staff as the team’s assistant coach and director of player development.

A four-year letterwinner at TSU from 2018-22, Jones served as the team’s graduate assistant during the 2022-23 season as he assisted the staff with practice and game preparation in addition to basketball operations.

As a student-athlete at TSU, Jones had a successful career as a Tiger as he holds a pair of SWAC Tournament Championship rings in 2021 and 2022 while participating in three SWAC Tournament Championships and the memorable 2018 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament run. The Baton Rouge, La. native made an instant impact upon his arrival at TSU from 2018 as he started 54 games throughout his career. Jones currently ranks as one of the top three-point shooters in school history with a total of 173 made which ranks eighth all-time in school history.
