Hot Bats Helps Softball Close Out SWAC Play With Win Over Prairie View A&M

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Jordan McClain and Pamela Richardson combined for six hits as TSU closed out the regular season with an 8-4 win over Prairie View A&M on Tuesday in a makeup game.
 
McClain led the first inning off with a double followed by a Richardson single which set up Daryn Haslam’s RBI groundout and a 1-0 lead. The lead increased to 2-0 in the second as Richardson’s RBI scored Saniah Henderson.
 
PVAMU homered in the second but Tamera McKnight’s sac fly in the third scored Madison Battle for a 3-1 margin. The Panthers moved ahead in the third after a three-run frame but TSU’s bats remained hot in the fourth as Haslam drove in McClain and Richardson as they reclaimed a 5-4 lead.
 
TSU tacked on three more runs in the fifth as Destinee Dixon and Jordan McClain drove in runs for an 8-4 lead. The Panthers tried to rally in the seventh as they scored an early run and eventually loaded the bases with two outs. However, reliever Nora Rodriguez forced a game-ending pop up.
 
McClain and Richardson both went 3-for-5 and combined for three RBI. McKnight went 2-for-2 with a run and RBI while Haslam had three RBI.
 
TSU is back in action next week at the 2023 SWAC Tournament in Gulfport, Miss.
