Hobbs Has Career Low, Women’s Golf Grinds at Day 1 Of Vaquero Invitational

McALLEN, Texas – The Texas Southern women’s golf team posted a season-low opening round on day one of the Vaquero Invitational hosted by The University of Texas Rio Grande Monday.

The Tigers are in 10th place after day one with senior Ashlie Hobbs leading the way individually, tied in 13th place. Hobbs carded a 2-over 144 (76-68) with her second round being a career-low, 3-under par 68 which included four birdies, 13 pars, and a single bogey. Hobbs also shares the lead for the greatest number of pars (28) for the tournament so far.

Freshman Shawnise Gregory posted a solid 154 (77-77) while junior Miness Siame was two strokes back on 156 (78-78). Junior Alexa Gonzalez recorded a 161 while freshman Phaith Harris is one stroke back on 162 that included a 6-over 77 first round.

The Vaquero Invitational is hosted at McAllen Country Club. The tournament format is 54-holes including 36-holes on Monday and the final round the following day. Tuesday’s final round will be a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m.
