Hobbs Atop Leaderboard, Women’s Golf Moves To 2nd In Puerto Rico

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – The Texas Southern women’s golf team moved up to second place after the second round of the inaugural Hornet Invitational hosted by Alabama State University on Wednesday.

Senior Ashlie Hobbs is atop the leaderboard following her 1-over round of 73 to give her a two-day total of 151 (78 – 73). Hobbs carded three birdies, 12 pars, two bogeys, and a double for her sole lead over the field.

Junior Alexa Gonzalez is in fifth place with her two-day total of 157 (79 – 78). Senior Lyla Vaughn sits at 165 while freshman Shawnise Gregory had a 10-shot improvement in her second round.

The Hornet Invitational is hosted at Grand Reserve Golf Club and the tournament format includes 54 holes over three days. Thursday’s final round begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
