Four Tigers Score In Double Figures En Route To A 72-67 Win At Grambling

Four Texas Southern players scored in double figures as TSU edged Grambling State 72-67 in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play on Monday evening inside the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.

Texas Southern (2-11 Overall, 1-1 SWAC) was led Taniya Lawson who tied her season-high 17 points and added five boards. Anela Thomas followed up with 16 points and five boards. Nya Harmon added 13 points while Jaida Belton neared a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Grambling State (7-6, 1-1) was paced by Kahia Warmsley who tallied a double-double with 17 points and 10 boards.

How it Happen
•Texas Southern got ahead early outscoring GSU 23-11 in the first quarter shooting 7-of-15 and limiting Grambling to just 19 percent shooting.

•GSU attempted to close in the score to a five-point deficit with 6:34 in fourth as they went on a 6-1 run (55-50) but TSU got as high as a nine-point lead (63-55) after a pair of free-throws by  Belton with under two minutes remaining.

•Grambling got as close as a three-point deficit after a tre by Warmsley on the fast break with 10 seconds remaining.

•Texas Southern’s bench scored 35 points.
