Carter’s Extra Inning RBI Lifts Softball To Win At Alcorn State

LORMAN, Miss – Jayda Carter’s RBI single in the eighth was the difference as TSU won a 2-1 road battle at Alcorn State on Friday.

TSU’s Destinee Dixon opened the third with a leadoff double before moving to third on Haley Castro’s sac bunt. Lanay Carr drove in the game’s first run with a sac fly for a 1-0 lead. With two outs in the bottom of the third, ASU answered the score on an RBI single.

TSU had opportunities to move back ahead with runners on third in both the fourth and seventh innings but couldn’t capitalize. However, TSU wouldn’t waste another opportunity in the eighth and extra inning as Angel Morales reached base on a one out error. Morales moved over to second on Madison Battle’s sac bunt and was pinch ran by Nya Leday-Johnson. With two outs in the inning, Jayda Carter came up with the game’s biggest hit as she drove in Leday-Johnson for the 2-1 lead as starter Jazmine Gendorf recorded a 1-2-3 eighth for the win.

Pam Richardson led TSU with a 2-for-4 outing while Gendorf held ASU to four hits over eight innings.

The series concludes tomorrow with a 12 p.m. doubleheader.
