Baseball Wraps Up Weekend With Doubleheader Sweep

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Texas Southern baseball team upped its winning streak to six games with another doubleheader sweep over Randall and Arlington Baptist on Saturday.
 
TSU 8, RANDALL 1
 
CJ Castillo had a perfect day at the plate as TSU won the opener 8-1.
 
The Tigers opened the scoring in the first inning when Gabe Vasquez singled home CJ Castillo. Noah Butler scored the team’s second run in the third as he stole home followed by Michael Goudeau’s run off an RBI single from Jaden Jones in the fourth.
 
Castillo led the fifth off with a single and scored off Jalen Freeman’s RBI bunt single. Victor Molina scored the fifth run after recording a stolen base from second followed by a Randall error. The Tigers notched three runs in the seventh as Daalen Adderley drove in Castillo followed by Adderley’s run off an error. Freeman capped off the scoring with an RBI single which scored Shannon Martin.
 
Castillo finished 4-for-4 with three runs while Butler, Gabe Vasquez, Adderley and Freeman all had multiple hits.
 
Jurgen Zwitzer allowed only one hit and no runs over three innings, walking one. Adolf Castillo went three innings with a run allowed followed by Justin Barnes’ lone inning.
 
TSU 9, ARLINGTON BAPTIST 2
 
TSU had 15 hits in the nightcap as they defeated Arlington Baptist 9-2.
 
Alexander Olivo doubled home Gabe Vasquez and Daalen Adderley in the first for a 2-0 lead. TSU tacked on two runs in the third as CJ Castillo and Adderly scored followed by Noah Butler’s run off CJ Castillo’s double in the fifth.
 
ABU scored once in the fourth and fifth to get within 5-2 but TSU put the game away with a pair of runs in the seventh and ninth inning.
 
Dade Hensley started for TSU on the mound as the righty allowed six hits and two runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking one. Four pitchers in total saw action as Carlos Marquez led the way with five strikeouts and one hit allowed in two innings of work.

Jalen Freeman, Jordan Miller, Olivo and Adderley, and CJ Castillo all had two hits while Jaden Jones had three RBI.
 
TSU is back in action on Tuesday at the University of Houston for a 6:30 p.m. start.
