Baseball Falls To Prairie View A&M

Texas Southern’s late rally fell short as Prairie View A&M claimed a 10-5 win on Saturday at MacGregor Park.

PVAMU scored a run in the first as TSU left runners on in scoring position in the first and third. With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, TSU moved ahead 2-1 after Ron Brown’s two-run homer.

The error bug struck TSU in the fifth as two errors led to a run followed by a bases loaded walk as PVAMU led 3-2. The Panthers opened the sixth with two singles followed by two TSU errors as their lead increased to 7-2.

TSU mounted a late rally in the eighth as Daalen Adderley led the inning off with a single followed by Roderick Coffee’s walk and Brown’s RBI single. PVAMU had a pitching change but TSU didn’t flinch as Tyler Williams recorded an RBI single. Jeffry Mercado’s sac fly cut the deficit to 7-5.

However, PVAMU would answer with three runs in the top of the ninth as TSU couldn’t counter to close out the contest.

Alexander Olivo, Adderley and Ron Brown all had two hits with Brown recording three RBI.

Domenic Martinez dropped to 4-2 despite striking out five.

The series concludes at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
