Baseball Concludes Cactus Jack Classic With 5-3 Win Against Southern

The Texas Southern University baseball team concluded the Cactus Jack Classic with a 5-2 win against Southern University at Minute Maid Park.

The Tigers (2-1) completed the weekend slate with a win against Jackson State (9-5) on Friday, but the team fell (5-3) to Prairie View on Saturday.

Dade Hensley picked up the win in 2.1 innings pitched as he didn’t give up any runs and struck out four Jaguar batters, while Issac Garcia picked up the save in one inning striking out two batters and walking one.

Southern (1-2) plated a run in the first to get an early start, but Texas Southern responded immediately at the bottom of the frame with two runs. Three straight Tiger walks by Chase Cromer, Jesse Herrera, lll and CJ Castillo loaded the bases as Rafael Gross doubled to left field for two RBIs in the frame.

After a run the bottom of the third for TSU, the fourth inning was a shutout on both sides, but the Jaguars tied the game with a run at the top of the fifth.

The Tigers scored two runs on two hits and left two on base at the bottom of the sixth to win the game.

Inside The Numbers
* Texas Southern scored five runs on five hits, and left 10 on base.
*Southern scored three runs on 10 hits, and left 10 on base.
Rafael Gross went 4-for-2, had two RBIs, and one run to lead Texas Southern.
* CJ Castillo went 3-for-1 with two RBIs.
*Josiah Castro started on the mound for the Tigers pitching 4.2 innings as he surrendered five runs on three hits, with two strikeouts and a a pair of walks.
*Dade Hensley picked up the win in 2.1 innings pitched as he didn’t give up any runs and struck out four Jaguar batters.
*Issac Garcia picked up the save in one inning as he struck out two batters and walked one.
*Justin Barnes pitched in relief for one inning striking out one Jaguar batter.

Texas Southern will travel to Corpus Christi, Texas to take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday.
