Three Tigers Score In Double Figures In Home Loss To SFA

Three Tigers scored in double figures, but it wasn’t enough as the Texas Southern women’s basketball team dropped a 73-58 decision to Stephen F. Austin Wednesday night inside the H&PE Arena.

Jordyn Turner paced Texas Southern (1-4) with 15 points while adding eight boards. Taniya Lawson followed with 13 points as she was 6-of-8 from the charity stripe. Jaida Belton chipped in 10 points respectively.

Anela Thomas had a game-high 19 points for SFA, while Destini Lombard recorded 14 points and was 6-of-7 from the field.

Texas Southern had a 5-0 start capped by three-pointer by Tatyanna Clayburne. Stephen F. Austin (2-2) answered back with a three by Kyla Deck  then went on a 14 -12 run to have a slight 17-14 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

For the first four minutes of the second quarter, TSU was limited to just a three by Alisa Knight as the Ladyjacks scored 13 points, leading 30-17 with 6:11 remaining. The Tigers answered back with 10 points in a row to cut the deficit, then the Ladyjacks closed the half out with a trey to lead 33-27 going into the half.

Even though the Tigers had their best field goal percentage shooting in the third quarter (33.3 percent) , they were still outscored 22-15 as they led 55-42 going into the fourth. However, that was as close as the game would get as the game would stay out of reach for TSU.
