Jones Hits First Homer, Texas Southern Falls Short On Road At Texas A&M

Jaden Jones hit his first homer of the season as the Texas Southern baseball team fell 7-4 to Texas A&M on Wednesday night at Clayton Park.

After four quiet innings, Texas A&M (13-0) plated one run at the bottom of the fifth and left two on base.

Texas Southern (4-10) responded back with two runs at the top of the sixth as Jaden Jones homered for two RBI’s, bringing in Jason Lazo who singled to get on base. The Tigers were able to hold the  Aggies to a scoreless sixth inning, while plating another run at the top of the seventh to lead, 3-1.

Texas A&M plated three runs in both the seventh and eighth innings on just three hits to take the lead, 7-3.

With two outs on the score board, the Tigers could only plate one run at the top of the ninth.

Lazo went 5-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Nasir Frederick went 4-for-2.

The Aggies were led by Braden Montgomery and Hayden Schott who both went 4-for-1 with three RBIs and plated one run each.

James Malone started on the mound for TSU as he pitched 4.0 innings while walking four, striking out two, and giving up one run.Adolf Castillo (0-1) took the loss in 0.2 innings pitched as he gave up three runs, walked to and fanned one.

Josh Stewart picked up the run for the Aggies in 1.1 innings as he struck one four without giving up any runs.

Texas Southern will compete in a three-game series against Incarnate Word on Friday (2 p.m.), Saturday (2 p.m.) , and Sunday (1 p.m.) in San Antonio, Texas.
