Bastidas Tallies Eight Saves In SWAC Tournament Loss To GSU

Freshman Goalkeeper Alessandra Bastidas recorded eight saves, but it wasn’t enough as the Texas Southern soccer team fell short to No. 1 Grambling State in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Women’s Soccer Semifinals on Friday evening at the PVAMU Soccer Complex.

Bastidas’ eight saves was her second most of the season with the first being in TSU’s season opener against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, as she tallied 14.

Texas Southern has concluded the season 7-12-1 Overall, 5-3-1 SWAC. The TSU offense was led by Hajar Benjoud who took four shots with one being on goal. The shot was as close as hitting the top of the goalpost. 

Kennedy Tristan and Isabella Dillow both took a shot with it being on goal. 

Grambling State (13-4-4, 8-0-1) scored its first goal in the ninth minute by Naya Vialva to lead 1-0 at the half. GSU pushed the margin in the 56th minute after a goal by Sophia Lezizidis. Four minutes later, Karlyn Judge scored what would be her ninth goal of the season to seal the match. 

Madison Covey-Taylor played a full game in the back of the net for Grambling as she had four saves.
