Volleyball Participates In North Florida Invite

The Texas Southern volleyball team will compete in the North Florida Invite in non-conference play against North Florida, Charlotte and Louisiana in Jacksonville, Fla. 

The Tigers will open play against North Florida (Sept. 8) at 9 a.m., followed by Charlotte (Sept 8) at 4:15 p.m., then Louisiana (Sept. 9) at 9 a.m. 

 The game can be streamed on ESPN+. Live stats will also be available here.

Texas Southern (0-7) is led offensively by Kennedy Reed who has 49 kills this season, followed by Gracie Hill with 42 and Amber Johnson with 35. Setter Dallas Balanay-Flores is coming into the competition after surpassing her 1,000th career assists in a 3-1 loss against Northwestern State on Tuesday. Ava Ray has also registered 51 assists this season.

SCOUTING REPORT

•North Florida: The Ospreys come into the competition 2-4 with its last match falling to Texas Christian 3-1 in the Coastal Carolina Tournament. In the tournament, they also swept Coastal Carolina 3-0, but lost against Georgia 3-0. NFU brings in familiar talent as outside hitter Mahalia White was named ASUN Preseason Player of the Year and Moro was honored as Preseason ASUN Defensive Player of the Year for the third-straight year. 

•Charlotte: Charlotte (4-2) comes into the competition ranked third in the nation in blocks per set at 3.33. Additionally, they went 1-2 in the Colorado Classic, sweeping Xavier 3-0 while taking losses against Northern Colorado and Colorado. Setter Annika Thompson reached 1,000 career assists in the loss to Colorado. 

•Louisiana: The Rajin’ Cajuns (4-4) is currently on a three game losing streak with its last loss to LSU (3-1) in the Red Raider Classic. Louisiana is paced offensively by Shyia Richarson who has 108 kills, and defensively by Mia Yamamoto who has registered 103 digs thus far. Mya Wilson and Cami Hicks has 18 assisted blocks each.
