TSU Athletics To Host Free Community Fan Fest Sunday, August 27

The Texas Southern Department of Athletics will host its inaugural Athletic Community Fan Fest on Sunday, Aug. 27 inside the H&PE Arena from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will officially kick off the 2023-24 athletic year campaign. TSU fans will have an opportunity to meet and interact with the coaches and student-athletes of all its sports teams. Posters featuring the fall and winter sports teams will also be available for autographing opportunities.

All 16 teams, including the TSU Ocean of Soul, TSU Cheerleaders/Mascots and Tiger Sensations Dance Team will be formally introduced to the public. In addition to a special appearance by TSU interim president Dr. Mary Evans Sias and TSU Board of Regents members, highlights of the event will be shown on the newly installed state-of-the-art jumbotron inside the H&PE Arena.

There will be free food, gaming trucks and kid zones available along with an opportunity for fans to tour (at a designated specified time) all the TSU athletic facilities, including the new Athletic Strength and Conditioning Facility and renovated locker rooms inside the H&PE Arena. There will be a live remote broadcast from our own KTSU 90.9 FM and a DJ present. TSU students will also have chances to win book vouchers through drawings along with chances to win exclusive TSU Under Armour gear by those participating in the gaming trucks.

Following the event, fans are encouraged to head over to Durley Stadium and cheer on the TSU Soccer team as they’ll host St. Mary’s at 6 p.m.

“We’re excited to host this inaugural event to thank our supporters as this also gives all of our alumni, fans, supporters and surrounding community an opportunity to interact with our student-athletes and administration on a personal level,” said Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Kevin Granger. “All are welcome to attend as we want to provide our student-athletes with maximum exposure. We plan on making this event an annual showcase to start the new athletic year.”
