Tigers Run Past AAMU For Big Win To Start Homestand

Four players scored in double figures as Texas Southern men’s basketball won its 20th straight contest over Alabama A&M after an 85-69 win on Saturday afternoon inside the H&PE Arena.

Trailing 11-8 with 12:03 remaining in the first half, the Tigers turned the intensity up big time as they went on a 20-4 run over the next six minutes as Kolby Granger and Deon Stroud combined to score 15 points as TSU was near perfect from the three-point line (3-of-4). By the time A&M recovered from the surge and began to match TSU’s production, the Tigers continued its strong play as Stroud scored six more points over the next 4:38 to push the lead to 17 at 42-25. Jonathan Cisse was fouled at the close of the half at the three-point line and sent TSU in the locker room ahead 45-30 with three free throws.

A&M opened the second half 5-of-5 from the free throw line to inch within single digits after Chad Moodie’s free throw with 17:18 left. TSU immediately ended all doubt of a comeback as the Tigers responded with a 14-0 run over the next three minutes led by PJ Henry’s five points. AAMU would draw no closer than 16 points the rest of the afternoon as everyone on TSU’s bench received action.

TSU head coach Johnny Jones is 11-0 lifetime against Alabama A&M as TSU has dominated the series against Alabama A&M recently as the Tigers have won 20 straight and 31 of the past 32 match-ups.
