Tigers Come Up Short Against Alabama State Monday Night

Jaida Belton flirted with a double double but it wasn’t enough as the Texas Southern women’s basketball team fell to Alabama State, 62-55 in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play on Monday night inside the H&PE Arena.

Texas Southern (4-15 Overall, 3-5 SWAC) was paced by Belton’s 19 points and nine boards, as she went 11-of-16 from the charity stripe. Taniya Lawson chipped in 13 points, while defensively, Nya Harmon tallied three steals.

Alabama State (2-16, 2-5) was led by Cordasia Harris who tallied 16 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks, while Solangelei Akridge added 15 points.

How It Happened

•The score was tied at 19 after one quarter, and TSU had a slight 32-28 advantage going into the break.

•Texas Southern had one of its lowest shooting percentages of the season, shooting just 24 percent from the field on 14-of-57 shooting.

•The Tigers were able to get to the charity stripe, shooting 23-of-30 free-throws.

•A low scoring third quarter for TSU proved costly as the Tigers  were outscored 20-11.
