Texas Southern Goes Wire-To-Wire To Claim 2024 SWAC Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Texas Southern men’s track & field team completed the trifecta as they won the 2024 SWAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Southern University on Saturday.
 
The win marked the first time since 2011 that one SWAC men’s program has won all three track & field seasons in a calendar year as TSU claimed titles in cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field. Head coach Clyde Duncan, Sr. also completed the sweep as his trophy case will feature three SWAC Coach of the Year awards.
 
Chaunzavia Lewis (10.49) started the night with a second-place finish in the 100 while Isaac Henderson placed fourth after running a 10.54. Kaseem Ibraheem-Washington (47.5) placed eighth in the 400 while Donyea Jarmon (14.42) and Hilton Smith placed fifth and sixth in the 110-meter hurdles, respectively. Brandon Washington finished fourth in the 800 (1:56.56) while SWAC Most Outstanding Runner Jose Gonzalez (3:52.11) won the 1,500-meter run by a seven-second difference. Gonzalez also claimed the 5,000-meter title with a time of 15:28.62. In the relays, TSU (40.54) finished fifth in the 4×100-meter relay.
 
Turey Stoudmire finished third (7-1.25) in the high jump while Adam Hines (15-0.75) and Joshua Goslee (14-0.75) placed 1-2 in the pole vault. TSU also earned points from Ian Charles’ fifth-place finish of 13-1 feet and Tyree Newman’s (11-1.5) eighth-place vault. Chadrick Williams capped off his impressive career at TSU with a second-place finish in the triple jump (50-9.5 feet) while Jaden Brooks (152-3 / 3rd), Jalen Walker (148-10 / 4th) and Kellen Garion (137-04 / 7th) combined for 13 points in the discus.
 
TSU finished with 161 total points as the team won its first outdoor title since 2016.
 
Several individuals will await their next destination as the NCAA West Regionals will take place in Fayetteville, Ark. from May 22-25.
