Texas Southern University head bowling coach Sabrina Rose announced today the addition of two newcomers for the 2020-21 campaign in Evan Smith and Cassie De La Fuente.
Smith hails from the Pacific Northwest in Seattle, Wash. as she had a decorated career at West Seattle High School. With the sport of bowling in its first season in Metro Seattle, Smith put the team on her shoulders as she helped build the program from scratch by serving as a player-coach while also generating sponsorships to help get the program off to a fast start.
For her efforts both on and off the lanes, Smith was also named to the prestigious 2019-20 Dexter All-American Team which requires a GPA of 3.0 or higher in addition to maintaining a high-level of play. Smith also is a four-time Greater Seattle USBC All-Star, the 2016 Touring Players Champion/Rookie of the Year and Pacific Northwest Conference Invitational Winner.
De La Fuente is a native of New Braunfels, Texas and one of the top bowlers in Central Texas. The four-sport standout, who also participated in basketball, softball and track & field, qualified for the Texas High School Bowling Club State Tournament three consecutive years. She made an immediate impact as a freshman as the 2017 New Braunfels High School and Comal County Rookie of the Year in addition to earning all-district and all-region honors. De La Fuente had the honor of competing at the U.S. High School Bowling National Championship in 2019 and also qualified for the 2020 Junior Gold Championships in Las Vegas, Nev.
