Basketball Teams To Face Jackson State Saturday Afternoon

The Texas Southern basketball teams will face Jackson State in a road contest starting at 3 p.m. on Saturday in Jackson, Miss.

The TSU women enter Saturday’s game looking to end a seven-game losing streak to JSU dating back to February of 2019. TSU is coming off a home split last weekend as they defeated Mississippi Valley State but fell to UAPB. A pair of freshmen lead TSU as Michah Gray averages 16.3 points followed by 6.4 rebounds from Jaida Belton.

The TSU men have slowly recovered since having everyone back and are now locked in a sixth-place tie with Prairie View A&M as only eight seeds are available for the upcoming SWAC Tournament. With only three games left, TSU needs to keep winning as four games separates teams 4-10. TSU head coach Johnny Jones is 13-1 lifetime against JSU as he has faced JSU as head coach at Memphis, North Texas and TSU. He’s 8-1 against JSU as TSU’s head coach.

Since 2007, TSU is 22-12 against JSU and has won 14 of the past 16 dating back to 2015. TSU has won eight of the past nine against JSU. Since 2012, TSU is 17-6 against JSU but five of the six losses have been in Jackson.
