HOUSTON - The Lady Tigers participated in the J.D Martin Invitational this past weekend. The meet was hosted by Oklahoma University on Saturday in Norman, Oklahoma at the Mosier Indoor Facility.

Texas Southern performed well in the events, placing in the top 10 in a total of nine events. In the 200m dash, Alexis Gray had another outstanding performance placing second overall (24.36s). Behind her was Nikole Haroon in seventh place (25.65s) and Zaidra James in eighth place (25.98s).

Haroon also showcased her sprinting ability in the 400m dash, coming in 1st place with a time of 58.76s. Three other Lady Tigers also placed in the top 10 of the 400m dash, Morgan Utsey-Williams in fifth place (1:00.71s), Alexis Horn coming in eighth (1:03.39s), and Jessilyn Nichols in ninth (1:03.63s).

The Lady Tigers' 4x400m relay, made up of Haroon, Gray, Mariah Steward, and Dashavonta Kinney, finished first with a time of 3:59.47s. Jaya Wilson represented the Tigers in the 800m run placing ninth overall with a time of 2:29.13s.

Alayshia Jones and LaNique Smith also showed their legs in the 600 yard run, with Jones finishing fifth (1:41.88s) and Smith finishing sixth overall (1:49.83s). Kinney also placed third in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.47s. Kiya Reeves (9.59s) and LaNique Smith (9.68s) finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Quintella Johnson represented the Lady Tigers in high jump placing second overall with a mark of 1.64m. In long jump, Cydnee Bush was the top finisher for Texas Southern in fifth place with a mark of 56.21m. Kinney, again showing her leaping ability came in sixth with a mark of 5.05. James tied with Kinney for a mark of 5.05m as well. Reeves closed out the Lady Tigers in 10th place for a mark of 4.71m.

TSU's Christelle Nintcheu came in ninth for both shot put (12.00m) and weight throw (12.67m), while teammate Taylor Watson ranked 10th in shot put with a mark of 11.04m.

The Lady Tigers will compete again next weekend in their last meet before SWAC indoor championships, at the Howie Ryan Invitational here in Houston at the University of Houston's Yeoman Fieldhouse.
