Arkansas-Pine Bluff rallied back with three straight wins as they handed TSU a 3-1 volleyball loss Sunday evening inside the H&PE Arena.

TSU rallied back from a 15-10 deficit in set one and claimed a 21-20 lead down the stretch. TSU would take advantage of three UAPB errors to move ahead 23-21 but surrendered two straight points after a bad set and kill from UAPB’s Haley Gomez to knot it at 23-all. UAPB committed a set error and TSU closed out the set in style after a kill from Jada Hall for a 25-23 decision.

Set two was neck-and-neck until an 8-2 run by UAPB saw TSU’s deficit increase to 15-10. The Tigers would draw to within five on two occasions after kills from Janiya Chapman and Caitlyn Roland but would draw no closer as TSU fell 25-16.

Set three was an emotional roller coaster as UAPB jumped out to a 9-3 lead before TSU rallied back with three straight kills from Danielle Lilley, Amber Johnson and Hall. TSU would eventually tie the set at 9-all but UAPB managed to pull away and hold onto a slight lead until the midway point as TSU fought back and tied it at 15-all. UAPB once again overcame the surge and upped its margin to four points several times down the stretch but TSU persevered and relied on a total team effort as they tied the contest at 23-all after a kill from Thalia Cordero Moreno. An attack error by TSU swung the lead back to UAPB but Amber Johnson came through with a kill to tie it at 24-all and force deuce point. Both teams traded points but UAPB closed the set out as Zyonn Smith recorded a kill followed by a TSU attack error.

UAPB took control of set four with an early 7-4 run as they led 16-8. They would lead by as much as eight but TSU closed the gap and cut it to 23-19 after kills from Johnson, Chenise Cook and Cordero Moreno. A set error ended the run for TSU but Cordero Moreno answered with a kill from Aeris Ramsey to keep TSU within striking distance at 24-20. However, TSU couldn’t close the gap as UAPB took advantage of another error close out the match.

Cordero Moreno led TSU with 12 kills while Ramsey added 20 assists. Lilley had a team-high 16 digs along with 15 from Ramsey.

TSU is back in action on Monday against Grambling State as the match will begin at 6:30 p.m. inside the H&PE Arena.
