vs. UC Riverside
The Texas Southern volleyball team fell 3-0 to UT Arlington on Tuesday evening at the H&PE Arena.
How it Happen
The Tigers only lead in set one was 4-2, as UTA would quickly cut the deficit by scoring four points in a row to take a 6-4 lead. Down the stretch, the score was as close as a three-point deficit as the Tigers trailed 14-11, but rallies down the line would put TSU down 25-18 after set one.
In set two, TSU trailed 7-3, but cut the deficit with three points in a row to trail by one. In the rally, Kourtni Collier and Briana Rainey registered kills. After an exchange of points, the Mavericks would silence the Tigers with five straight points for a 13-7 lead. The rally was stopped after a service error. The game was as close as a four-point deficit as Texas Southern trailed 19-15, but UTA went on a 5-2 run to take a 24-17 lead. The Tigers fought hard by scoring three points in a row, led by kills from Dallas Balany-Flores and Chinese Cook, but it wasn’t enough as a kill by UTA’s Briana Brown would call it a game.
The Tigers trailed by as little as three points, 15-12 in the third set, but three attack errors on TSU would contribute to five straight points for the Mavericks as they took a 20-12 lead. The Tigers would attempt to cut the deficit as Gracie Hill would get two kills and Amber Johnson would chip in one, but Brown would get two kills to keep UTA at a 22-15 lead. TSU would only get two more points as they fell 25-17.
Texas Southern will participate in the Tarleton State Tournament beginning on Friday at 10 a.m. against UC Riverside, followed by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore at 2 p.m. The Tigers will conclude the tournament on Saturday as they take on Tarleton State at 2 p.m. All matches will be played at the Wisdom Volleyball gym in Stephenville, Texas.
