HOUSTON – The Tigers of Texas Southern University put their 10-game winning streak on the line Thursday when they host Alcorn State. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (or approximately 20 minutes after the completion of the women's game between the two schools).

Texas Southern (18-11, 13-3 SWAC) have clinched at least a second-place finish in the Southwestern Athletic Conference standings. They will host a first-round game when the postseason SWAC Tournament begins Tuesday.

The Tigers are led by graduate transfer Jeremy Combs; the 6-foot-7 forward averages 16.9 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. Combs has been a key part of TSU's winning streak, as he won four consecutive Player of the Week awards from the SWAC during their 10-game run.

The TSU frontcourt also got a big boost last week in the return of 7-foot-2 center Trayvon Reed, who averages 12.9 points and 8.2 rebounds per contest.

Alcorn State (10-18, 6-10 SWAC) is led by 6-foot-1 guard Maurice Howard, who averages 13.4 points per game. The Braves are 0-14 on the road this season.

GAME NOTES

Make 'em when they count
The Tigers have seven players shooting 40 percent or better from the floor during conference home games; Eden Ewing leads the team by shooting 63.8 percent (37 of 58) from the floor during SWAC games at home. The Tigers have outscored SWAC opponents by 11.4 points per game at home (87.1 to 75.7).

High scorers
The Tigers average 79.2 points per game, which leads the SWAC by more than six points per contest over the next highest-scoring team (Prairie View A&M, 73.1 points per game). In SWAC play, the Tigers average 81.6 points per game, which also leads the conference.

Jones heating up
Since being held scoreless on the Grambling-Jackson State road trip, John Jones has found his scoring touch, averaging 10.0 points per game over the last four contests. He has shot 52.2 percent (12 of 23) from 3-point range over TSU's last four games.

Get it to 41(.8 percent)
The Tigers are 14-1 in games in which they shoot at least 41.8 percent from the floor. Their one loss in such games came at Arkansas–Pine Bluff, when the Tigers fell 90-86 despite shooting 49.1 percent (28 of 57) from the field.
