HOUSTON- Texas Southern's Marvin Jones tallied a double-double en route to leading the Tigers to a 76-55 blowout victory over Grambling State on Saturday.
In what was the Tigers' home opener TSU got off to a hot start in the first half shooting 60 percent from the field. TSU took a 38-24 advantage into intermission largely behind the contributions of Zach Lofton and Jones.
In the second half Texas Southern kept its foot on the gas pedal outscoring GSU 38-31 in the half. Lofton ended up with 16 points on a 3-of-8 shooting night from the floor as he made his efforts count at the charity stripe going 9-of-11.
Trae Jefferson (13), Jalan McCloud (10), and Kevin Scott (10) rounded out the list of double digit contributors for the Tigers.
Texas Southern will get a day off before returning to the hardwood on Monday in a SWAC showdown with the Jackson State Tigers at the HPE Arena in a contest that is slated to be televised live on ESPNU.
