NORMAN, Okla. - Texas Southern dropped a midweek opener at No. 16 Oklahoma on Tuesday afternoon.

Texas Southern's offense was stifled fairly quickly in the first inning despite Tyrese Clayborne's lead-off single. After walking Justin Cooper in the second at bat, Oklahoma starter Ben Abram (1-0) sent the next eight straight batters out.

At the same time, the Oklahoma offense scored early and often but were also aided by three TSU errors. The Sooners chased TSU starter Tyler Hansen off the mound after 3.1 innings of action as they jumped out to an 8-0 lead. Four pitchers were sent to the mound after Hansen and three of them would eventually allow at least one earned run.

TSU totaled five hits against OU as Victor Bueno provided nearly half of the amount with two hits. Cooper, Claybourne and Roderick Coffee rounded out the team's remaining hits for the game with one each. The team's sole run came in the ninth inning when Coffee banked a two-out single to send Nic Garza home, who himself reached base by drawing a walk. The play preserves his hitting streak for another day, with the number now bumping up to four games.

The Tigers will close out their brief series against the Sooners on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
