TSUSports.com: Strong shooting day leads Lady Tigers past Mississippi Valley

ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University shot better than 50 percent in three of their game's four quarters Saturday as they won 72-53 at Mississippi Valley State.

Joyce Kennerson scored a game-high 29 points on 11-of-17 shooting to lead Texas Southern (15-9, 10-3 SWAC) to their ninth Southwestern Athletic Conference win in its last 10 games. Kaitlyn Palmer chipped in 10 points for TSU, while Taylor Robinson and Nycolle Smith added nine points apiece; Smith's nine points marked a career high.

LaKendra Bassett scored 15 points for Mississippi Valley State. The Devilettes (2-24) fell to 2-12 in SWAC play.

The Lady Tigers outscored Valley in every quarter and led 49-39 after the end of three periods. TSU shot 82 percent (9 of 11) from the field in the fourth quarter as the Lady Tigers pulled away for good.

Kennerson raised her scoring average 24.6 points per game. She also took three steals in the game and pushed her career total to 165, which moved her past Kisa Glosson (1984-88) for ninth in TSU history in career steals.

Camille Mills recorded a career-high seven steals for the Lady Tigers in addition to scoring four points.

The Lady Tigers return to action Monday when they visit Arkansas–Pine Bluff. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
