TSUSports.com: Southern completes weekend sweep of Tigers with 8-5 victory

BATON ROUGE, La. – Errors continued to hinder the Tigers of Texas Southern University as Southern completed a three-game weekend series sweep Sunday with an 8-5 victory.

The Tigers committed six errors, including three in the fifth inning that led to four Southern runs as the Jaguars took a 7-3 lead. TSU committed 14 errors during the three-game series at Baton Rouge.

Southern (10-17) improved to 7-7 in Southwestern Athletic Conference divisional play with the victory. The Tigers (10-23, 8-6 SWAC) maintained at least a share of first place in the SWAC's West Division. TSU opens a three-game series at home with Prairie View A&M this weekend; the Tigers are 6-2 at home this season.

Olajide Oloruntimilehin went 3-for-5 for the Tigers, which included a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning. Kamren Dukes added a two-RBI single later in the inning to briefly give TSU a 3-2 lead; Dukes was 2-for-4 Sunday.

Trailing 7-3 in the top of the seventh inning the Tigers added two more runs thanks to RBIs by Jose Camacho and Christian Sanchez. Camacho knocked a double down the left-field line that scored Gaudencio Lucca; Lucca had three hits for the Tigers.

Ryan Hawkins took the loss for the Tigers, giving up five runs (two of them earned) over four and two-thirds innings. Tyler Robinson earned the win for the Jaguars.

The Tigers begin their series with Prairie View A&M on Thursday at 5 p.m. at MacGregor Park. The Easter weekend pushed the series start ahead to Thursday.
