ATLANTA, Ga. – Texas Southern baseball’s 2023 season ended abruptly after falling 9-6 to Prairie View A&M in the SWAC Tournament on Thursday morning.

PVAMU struck first in the third with two runs but TSU countered in the bottom frame as Gabe Vasquez and Roderick Coffee hit back-to-back sac flies for a 2-2 margin. The Panthers answered in the top of the fourth with three runs and added two more in the fifth to lead 7-2 as TSU used three pitchers during the inning.

TSU fought back in the bottom half as CJ Castillo reached base on an error followed by Chase Cromer’s single. Alexander Olivo drove in a run followed by Vasquez’s three-run homer to draw TSU within 7-6.

Unfortunately, that would be the last runs of the season as PVAMU hit a solo homer in the seventh and added two more in the ninth for the final margin.

Cromer finished 2-for-3 with two runs while Olivo was 2-for-4. Vasquez led TSU with four RBI while Cade Fontenot was tagged with the loss after four innings of action.
