The Texas Southern University men's basketball team bolstered its frontcourt in a big way with the signing of former ESPN Top 100 player and Mississippi State forward Jethro Tshisumpa (Ta-shum-pa).
"We are extremely excited to add a player like Jethro to our program," said TSU head coach Johnny Jones. "He will make an immediate impact to our team and have a dominant presence on both sides of the ball in the paint. He has an unbelievable feel defensively and will be an anchor in our defense. Texas Southern fans and alumni will love watching Jethro in a Tiger uniform."

A 6-10, 260-pound forward from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tshisumpa spent the previous season at SEC member Mississippi State and has ties to the Houston area after spending the 2017-18 year at San Jacinto College in nearby Pasadena, Texas. While at San Jacinto, Tshisumpa was the No. 3 shot blocker in the JUCO ranks as he tallied 116 blocks while averaging 8.4 points per game. Prior to his one year at San Jacinto, Tshisumpa played one year at Arizona State of the Pac-12 and saw action in 26 contests with five starts and 25 blocks.

A former four-star recruit out of Mountain Mission High School in Grundy, Va., Tshisumpa has a 7-5 wingspan and was ranked as the No. 87 overall recruit in the nation by ESPN out of high school. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
