• Texas Southern hits the road for its swing through the Mississippi Delta which begins with a match-up at Arkansas-Pine Bluff Saturday evening.
• The Tigers have began SWAC play 0-2 as their last game was on Jan. 16. Last Monday's game versus Jackson State was postponed due to COVID-19 issues at Jackson State. Part of the reason TSU has started off slowly was due to postponements and injuries which has eaten up depth in the backcourt.

• This marks the third year for TSU head coach Johnny Jones. Jones went 24-14 in his inaugural year as head coach with three Power 5 conference wins. TSU fell in the finals of the 2019 SWAC Tournament and competed in the CIT. TSU advanced to the semifinals of the CIT in 2019. Last season, the Tigers made it back to the semifinals of the SWAC Tournament after a third-place regular season finish but saw the season end abruptly due to COVID-19.

• Jones is 2-2 lifetime against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

• Jones is 79-73 all-time in the month of January and 10-6 at TSU.

• UAPB started out SWAC play with a 2-0 record but saw its third game postponed due to COVID-19 versus Alabama A&M. Picked 10th in the preseason poll, the Golden Lions hit a buzzsaw last weekend on the road with a pair of 30-plus point losses to Southern and Alcorn State. Shawn Doss, Jr. leads UAPB with 17.9 points and 6.4 rebounds. Joshuwan Johnson follows with 10.1 points.

• UAPB has won four of the past seven games versus TSU thanks to its home court. UAPB is 7-6 against TSU in Pine Bluff since 2008 as they're 1-11 in Houston over the past 12 games.

• Three Tigers average double figures as guard Michael Weathers averages 14.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.5 steals. Forward John Walker III averages 13.8 points and 5.7 rebounds while Galen Alexander averages 12.2 points and 4.8 rebounds.

• TSU was tabbed as the preseason favorite to win the 2020-21 SWAC title in the annual preseason poll with nine lettermen returning and three starters. The Tigers also had a trio of student-athletes earn preseason honors as Yahuza Rasas and Justin Hopkins were named to the first team while Chris Baldwin received second team honors. Experience won't be an issue as four of the five newcomers are NCAA Division I transfers who sat out last season due to NCAA rules.

• TSU takes the term "home, sweet home" to heart as the Tigers are 104-24 inside the H&PE Arena since 2008. TSU has won nine-plus games at home every year since the 2010-11 season.
