MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University remained undefeated in Southwestern Athletic Conference play after claiming a 1-0 triumph Friday at Alabama State.

Senior striker Paige Hayward made the most of her return to the TSU lineup, tallying the match's only goal with an unassisted strike in the 33rd minute. It was Australia national's fourth goal of the season and 20th of her TSU career, four off the school's all-time mark.

The win over Alabama State vaulted the Lady Tigers (3-4-2) to the top of the SWAC table with a 2-0-1 league record, one point ahead of Grambling State, which is undefeated in two league matches. Alabama State (4-6) fell to 2-1 in SWAC play.

TSU's freshman goalkeeper Tammy Syron continued her stellar play in the net, posting her second shutout in three conference matches. Syron stopped six shots, three in each half.

The TSU defense, anchored by regulars Briana Norwood, Bailey Blalock, and Brooke Ianiero, also limited the Hornets' chances. ASU held a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal, but was unable to put a shot on target in the final 20 minutes, despite having five corner kick opportunities during that span.

The Lady Tigers return to action Sunday when they visit Alabama A&M (0-10, 0-3 SWAC). Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Huntsville, Ala.
