HOUSTON - Texas Southern (1-1) opened its season with a double-header split versus Houston Baptist Saturday afternoon. The Lady Tigers fell in game one 3-2, but rebounded for a 4-2 victory in the second contest.

Game one was a pitcher's duel between HBU's Jessica Patak and TSU's Jasmin Fulmore. The Lady Huskies managed first strike when Libby Brown got a hold of a Fulmore offering for a solo home run in the third inning.

Outside of that, Fulmore and the Lady Tigers largely held HBU's offense in check. Texas Southern tied matters in the fifth when Jocilynn Ellis (2-for-3, R) slapped a double and Dominique Tello brought her home with a single. In the seventh, TSU took the lead when pinch-runner Ebony Wiltz scored on a throwing error, but Houston Baptist managed two runs off of TSU reliever Bailey Daniels to steal the win.

In game two, Lauren Rodriguez pitched five innings, allowing three hits and no runs in the victory. Texas Southern jumped ahead early with a four-run second inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Terren Vinson (2-for-3, R) and a RBI double from Tello.

That was all Rodriguez and Tyra Williams needed, as Williams locked up matters with a two-inning save. Ellis was 2-for-3 with a run scored in this game as well.
