HOUSTON – Four Texas Southern University players scored in double figures Saturday as the Lady Tigers completed a regular season sweep of in-state rival Prairie View A&M with a 73-51 win.
Playing in front of a crowd of nearly 4,000 spectators, sophomore guard Joyce Kennerson scored a game-high 21 points to help the Lady Tigers (14-7) improve to 8-2 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. Kennerson picked up three fouls in the first half, but scored 18 points after halftime.
Artavia Ford turned in her fourth double-double performance of the season for the Lady Tigers, scoring 12 points and pulling in 10 rebounds; she also blocked three shots. Kaitlyn Palmer scored 11 points and handed out five assists for TSU, and was 3-of-7 from the 3-point circle.
Shamiya Brooks came off the TSU bench and scored a season-high 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting and blocked four shots against her former team. A 6-foot-3 post, Brooks played three full seasons at Prairie View A&M but was limited to one game last season due to injury; she received her bachelor's degree from PVAMU in 2016.
Prairie View A&M's Jeronia Allen scored 16 points on 8-of-13 shooting off the bench. La'Sha Haynes scored 10 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Lady Panthers (8-14, 3-7 SWAC).
