BATON ROUGE, La. – Joyce Kennerson scored 22 points, and Taylor Robinson added 18 as Texas Southern downed Southern 66-60 at the F.G. Clark Activity Center Thursday night.

With the win, the Lady Tigers remain in the conversation for the No. 1 overall seed after forcing a tie atop league standings with Southern.

TSU roared out of the gate in the first to the tune of a 14-4 run as Kennerson scored 11 points in the opening period to lead Texas Southern to a 25-15 advantage heading into the second quarter. The Lady Tigers pressed forward, leading by as many as 14 and taking a 43-29 lead into the break.

Southern managed to clamp down in the second half, limiting Kennerson to just three points following intermission. However, despite forcing Texas Southern into 23 turnovers, the Jaguars were never able to overtake the Lady Tigers down the stretch.

In the fourth, Texas Southern – who came into the frame up 57-46 – started slowly as the Jaguars cut into the lead with a 6-0 run. Eventually, Southern's Briana Green knocked down a jumper to make the game 61-60 with 2:50 left, but Southern's offense disappeared from there as TSU scored the game's final five points.

Camille Mills and Chynna Ewing each grabbed 11 boards as Texas Southern outrebounded Southern 46-30 and limited the Jaguars to a 35.7 percent clip from the field (25-of-70). TSU shot 51 percent (25-of-49) from the floor.
TSU will close out regular season play on Saturday, March 3rd at Alcorn State.
