GRAMBLING, La. – The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University earned a split of their Louisiana road trip after defeating Grambling State in four sets Monday.

Scores of the match were 25-14, 18-25, 26-24, and 25-20.

Alexis Austin knocked down a match-high 16 kills, while Cassidy Jannson tallied a double-double with 10 kills and 16 digs to lead Texas Southern (6-8), which improved their record in Southwestern Athletic Conference play to 4-3.

Junior setter Asia Howard handed out a career-high 37 assists for the visiting Lady Tigers Senior libero Erin Adams recorded 15 digs, followed by Ellena Torres (10 digs) and Alyssa Chuidian (eight digs).

TSU middle blocker Kirby Anderson hit .368 for the match, knocking down nine kills and committing two errors on 19 attempts. Nicole Robinson also put away nine kills for TSU.

Texas Southern outhit Grambling in the three sets they won; the visiting Lady Tigers hit better than .300 in sets one and four, combining for 28 kills and only six errors on 69 attempts (.319) in the first and last sets.

In set three, TSU trailed for most of the set, and were behind by as many points twice. The visitors used a 5-1 stretch to tie the set at 21, and did not take their first lead of the set until they led 25-24.

Additionally, Texas Southern fended off two set points trailing 24-22 before winning the final four points of the set, with Chuidian serving the final three points. Three of those four points came from kills by Austin.

The win over Grambling moved Texas Southern into sole possession of second place in the SWAC's West Division behind Southern's 5-2 league record. The Lady Tigers opened the road trip with a four-set loss at Southern on Sunday night. Scores of that match were 25-23, 25-20, 18-25, and 25-23.

In the loss to the Jaguars, Austin knocked down 15 kills and hit .323 on 31 attempts.

The Lady Tigers return to action Thursday when they make the relatively short trip (in terms of distance) up U.S. Highway 290 to visit Prairie View A&M. Match time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
