HOUSTON – A pair of second-half goals by Grambling State lifted the visiting Lady Tigers to a 2-0 victory Friday at Texas Southern in a battle of the Southwestern Athletic Conference's top two sides.

GSU's Kaylee Holt provided the corner kick assist on Janee Harris' match-winner in the 59th minute, then added a goal of her own in the 76th minute lead Grambling (6-5, 4-0 SWAC) to the win and into first place on the SWAC table.

The loss by Texas Southern (4-5-2, 3-1-1 SWAC) snapped the team's four-match unbeaten streak to open conference play. It was also the Lady Tigers' fourth consecutive shutout loss on their home field.

TSU's defense kept Grambling at bay during the first half, as the visiting Tigers did not record a shot on goal until Harris broke through near the hour mark. However, Grambling held a 15-7 advantage in total shots, taking seven off-target strikes in the first half.

The hometown Tigers had their best chance early in the first half, when Paige Hayward's strong header off a 45-yard free kick from Brooke Ianiero went straight to Grambling goalkeeper Jordan Woodward.

Grambling limited the home side's chances as the match wore on, though TSU applied pressure late in the match as the home Lady Tigers tried to cut into GSU's lead.

TSU's Lady Tigers return to the pitch Sunday when they host Arkansas–Pine Bluff for a 1 p.m. match. The contest will be aired on the SWAC Digital Network.
