Bowling Flashback: TSU claims 2018 SWAC Bowling Championship Title

(This is a look back at one of the best performances of the 2017-18 season)

ARLINGTON, Texas – Texas Southern edged Jackson State in a back and forth contest to win its first SWAC bowling conference championship since 2006.

Jackson State won game one of the first match 153-151 to take a 1-0 lead in the best of seven.

Texas Southern answered in the second game winning 178-152 to even things at 1-1, but Jackson State took the lead back in game three with a 194-163 victory to take a 2-1 lead.

Texas Southern once again had an answer, winning game four 182-175 to even the series at 2-2.

Jackson State outpointed Texas Southern 212-210, putting itself one game away from forcing a second match. However, Texas Southern pushed it a seventh game by winning game six by a score of 199-153.

In the seventh and decisive game, the back and forth pattern continued. The seventh game was the closest game contested in the match. Texas Southern's Samantha Kriner knocked down nine pins in her final two rolls as TSU edged Jackson State by just one pin 190-189 to claim the conference title.

Texas Southern's Brittany Torres was named the championship's Most Valuable Bowler. Torres closed 12 out of 14 frames with seven strikes and five spares in the championship match.

Texas Southern will head to the NCAA tournament by receiving the first automatic bid in SWAC history.

The NCAA Bowling Championship will be held April 12-14 at Tropicana Lanes in St. Louis, Mo.
