Texas Southern Athletics’ Department of Academic Enhancement has named Dallas Balanay-Flores of volleyball and Brandon Washington of men’s track & field/cross country as its Student-Athletes Of The Month for the month of November.

Student-athletes are chosen as athletes of the month based on their commitment to academic success, efforts towards class, attitude towards academic staff, and devotion to volunteerism and service to the surrounding community.

“Dallas is committed to academic success in the classroom as well as being committed to success on the court. She handles adversity gracefully and it shows through her bubbly nature in everything she encounters. She takes instructions well on and off the court leads with her actions. She is a true example of an athlete that any advisor or coach desires on their team,” said Assistant AD Of Academic Enhancement Kimberly Evans.

Washington was nominated as male student-athlete of the month as he has demonstrated several acts of selflessness through acts of volunteerism and leading several events within the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

“Brandon has shown a lot of growth in his academics. Since his freshman year, I have watched Brandon grow into the talented individual he is today. It is an honor to recommend Mr. Washington as our November Student Athlete of the Month,” said Evans.

Cross country and men’s track & field distance coach Xavier Martinez issued the following remark as he recollects on what made Washington stand out as the student-athlete of the month.

“Brandon is an exemplary student-athlete that does everything to the best of his abilities. He’s a person that we can count on to be a leader day in and day out as he is a hard worker that is truly dedicated to TSU and the sport of track & field.”
