For the third time this season and second straight week, Texas Southern University women’s basketball player Andriana Avent has been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Player of the Week after turning in a strong week averaging 27 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals, 2.0 assists and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting 13-of-14 from the charity stripe this past week.

Avent, a 5-foot-11 redshirt junior guard from Sacramento, Calif., was previously awarded Player of the Week honors on Nov. 30 and Jan. 15 and has combined with teammate Micah Gray to win the award a total of five times this season.

Avent leads the Tigers in free throws made (76), free throws attempted (100) and steals (31).

Avent totaled 23 points, five rebounds, three steals, two blocks and an assists in TSU’s 72-69 overtime loss at Alabama A&M on Saturday, Jan. 21, before adding on 31 points, four rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block in 81-73 loss at Alabama State.

The Tigers have just one contest this weekend, but it is a crucial one as there is still hope of making the SWAC postseason tournament. TSU returns to the H&PE Arena on Saturday, Jan 28, when Prairie View A&M comes to town for a 3 p.m. CST tipoff.
