CONFERENCE NEWS AND NOTES
•  The 2014 SWAC Basketball Tournament will be held at the Toyota Center from March 11-15. The Southwestern Athletic Conference will host the 2014 Championship for the first time in Houston, Texas
•  Texas Southern’s Aaric Murray scores 48 (20-of-28) at Temple. No player in college basketball 6-10 or taller has scored this many points in a decade and Murray is the first player since BYU’s Jimmer Fredette in 2011 to knock down 20 field goals
• A pair of SWAC teams will be featured in a Saturday double header.  Jackson State plays at No. 17 Memphis and Prairie View faces No. 4 Wisconsin.  Both games are live on ESPNU
• Texas Southern and Jackson State handed out upsets last week.  Texas Southern defeated Temple from the American Athletic Conference and Jackson State topped Louisiana Lafayette out of the Sun Belt.
•  Arkansas Pine Bluf leads the SWAC in steals averaging nearl 10 per contest
• Despite Southern’s 3-9 record, they average margin in defeats is -2.9.  This includes losses from top ranked Arizona, No. 12 Baylor, No. 16 ranked Florida, and No. 17 Marquette
• Brandon West (Jackson State) is the only player currently averaging a double-double in the league with 10 points  and 11 rebounds per game

SWAC Leaders:
Points - Aaric Murray (TXSO) - 24.5 /game
Assists - Jamel Waters (ALST) 6.6/game
Rebounds - Brandon West (JKST) 11.2/game
• Mississippi Valley State’s gymnasium (HPER Complex) will start renovations soon. These are the first changes made to the arena since 1977. The Delta Devils will continue their home matches at the Leflore Country Civic Center in Greenwood, Miss. until renovations are complete
• How ironic is it that Alabama State plays host to Auburn-Montgomery, which is part of the Auburn University system and Alabama A&M travels to Alabama-Birmingham as the Blazers are on the University of Alabama’s system.
