The stat sheet showed Rice committed 28 turnovers and missed 11 of 20 free throws during Monday’s home opener against Texas Southern.

But at the end of 40 minutes, Rice had seven more points on the scoreboard than the Tigers. The Owls 61-54 win gives Rice a 2-0 record for the first time in five seasons.

Jessica Kuster had her second straight double-double with a game-high 16 points and 12 rebounds. The Conference USA Player of the Week added three steals and three assists.

Outside of the home court advantage the refs gave, the scorekeeper misapplying points, and the timekeeper not keeping time, this just wasn't our best executed game from the Lady Tigers. The two teams combined for 53 turnovers!

The box score shows we played slightly better in the second half, but in the end we were out rebounded and (with some extra help from the no calls and the phantom fouls) we were outscored. Rice started clogging up the lanes, forcing us to shoot from the outside, but we only managed 2 of 15 from beyond the arc. We will learn from this and grow.

Texas Southern was DEEP at Rice's home arena. Made me feel like I was at the H&PE!
