Women’s Track Sets Numerous Personal Bests At Houston Alumni Invitational

The TSU women’s track & field moved up the SWAC charts as several team members set personal best marks at the Houston Alumni Invitational.
 
Ashlonia John posted a personal best in the 400 and the fifth-best time in the SWAC as she placed third overall with a time of 56.21. Rayah Wynn also had a personal best as she finished sixth with a run of 56.67. Lillie Burnett moved to sixth in the SWAC and posted a personal best time in the 100 (11.96) with a top 10 finish.
 
Briana Creeks’ time of 4:53.82 in the 1,500-meter run was a personal-best and sixth in the SWAC as she finished seventh overall while the 4×100-meter relay team of Chelsea Simmons, Shelby Brooks, Lillie Burnett and Taliyah Davis ran a season-best time of 46.88 which is fourth in the SWAC. The mile relay quartet of Wynn, John, Creeks and Mikayla Koester finished third in a time of 3:47.64. Hurdler Kayla Jenkins moved to fourth in the SWAC in the 100-meter hurdles after a run of 14.41.
 
Jalecia Smith finished second in the javelin (118-2) and is now third in the SWAC while Phylan Perkins finished fifth overall with a throw of 137-4 in the discus and sixth in the hammer (172-11). Perkins’ throw in the hammer moved her to the top of the SWAC and third in the discus.
 
TSU is back in action at the Texas A&M Team Invitational on Friday and Saturday in College Station, Texas.
