Women’s Golf Wins 3rd Straight Tournament

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Texas Southern Women’s Golf team claimed their third consecutive win as they closed out the fall portion of their schedule at the Birmingham Invitational hosted by the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).

“Our ladies fought but they know their ability is far greater than their performance,” Texas Southern University head golf coach Dr. Gary Grandison said.

Junior Ashlie Howard-Hobbs posted a 4-over 76 in the final round to move up two spots and place second individually.

Four Tigers finished in the top 10 individually. Senior Rev Alcantara also moved up two places to finish fourth and sophomore Lyla Vaughn finished in sixth. Freshman, Miness Siame, tied for eighth.

“Our offseason is critical for our program. We have plans in place to support them,” Grandison concluded.

The Birmingham Invitational was the final fall contest for the team. The Tigers return to play in the spring of 2022, teeing up at the SWAC Preview in Birmingham, Ala. at the end of February.
