Women’s Golf Back In Action At UTRGV Invitational

Texas Southern University women’s golf is back on the links next week as they compete in the UTRGV Invitational hosted by The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

The Tigers will be feeding off their spring opener after winning the 2022 Birmingham Spring Invitational hosted by the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).

“This event provides an exciting development opportunity for our women’s team,” head golf coach Dr. Gary Grandison said.

Graduate Student Rev Alcantara, posted a 6-over-par, 78 to secure the women’s title by two strokes. Junior Ashlie Hobbs, finished in third place after posting the women’s tournament-low round of 75 during her final round.

“Our learning curve is tilting upward, so I am hopeful that we bring the best dispositions to compete,” Grandison concluded.

The Tigers will be playing at McAllen Country Club with their practice round on Sunday, 36 holes in the opening rounds on Monday, and the final round on Tuesday.
