Women’s Basketball Drops Regular Season Road Finale

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.   A pair of low-scoring quarters was the difference as Alabama A&M claimed a 64-36 contest Monday in women’s basketball action.

The first quarter was evenly played at the beginning but AAMU pulled away with an 8-0 run over the final 4:19 as TSU missed its last five shots for a 14-6 deficit to end the quarter. AAMU upped its lead to 22-9 two minutes into the second quarter but Quatera Limbrick scored the next five of TSU’s seven points to key a 5-2 run as they trailed 24-16. AAMU’s Kobi Warner pushed its lead back to double digits and it remained that way into the halftime break as they led 32-20.

The final two quarters didn’t go the way of TSU offensively as they combined to hit six baskets, including one in the final quarter. Normally solid from beyond the arc, TSU struggled there also as they hit only two three-pointers for the night as AAMU held a double-digit lead the remainder of the second half.

Ataiya Bridges and Britnee Gabriel led TSU with 10 points while Gabriel also added seven rebounds, a block. Bridges also had five steals and four rebounds.

TSU is back at home for its final two regular season games versus Alcorn State and Southern on Thursday and Saturday. On Saturday, the contest against Southern has been changed to 1 p.m.
