Williams Has Another Strong Day, Men’s Track & Field Finishes 4th At SWAC

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Texas Southern men’s track & field team placed fourth at the 2021 SWAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on the Prairie View A&M campus.

On the final day of competition, TSU started out the strong in the triple jump as Chadrick Williams, who won the javelin on Friday and finished with the third-most points amongst field competitors (21), placed second with a mark of 50-10.75 while teammate Christian Lewis finished third with a jump of 49-1 feet.

Williams was a busy man as he placed seventh in the pole vault with a personal-best height of 10-11.75 feet in addition to an eighth-place finish in the high jump has he recorded a jump of 6-4.25.

The TSU 4×100-meter “A” team placed fourth after a time of 41.77 while Jose Gonzalez and Hilary Maiyo scored in the 1,500-meter run as they finished sixth and eighth, respectively.

Karon Bain earned a fourth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles after clocking 14.94.

Kenneth White was TSU’s top finisher in the 400 as he placed fourth (47.73) while teammate Eric Prier finished seventh (51.11). Javan Martin, who qualified for the finals of the 100-meter dash on Friday, suffered an injury midway through the race.

Brandon Washington (1:55.70) and Kylan Wess (1:55.77) finished 3-4 in the 800 followed by Bryan Clarke’s fifth-place run of 55.03 in the 400-meter hurdles.

Efrain Lira (16:28.97) and Maiyo (16:48.83) placed fifth and sixth, respectively in the 5,000. The mile relay closed out the meet with a fifth-place run of 3:16.62.
