Volleyball Starts SWAC Play This Weekend At SWAC Round-up

The Texas Southern volleyball team begins SWAC play this weekend as they’ll head to Prairie View, Texas for the SWAC Round-Up. TSU will have a full weekend with five games over a  three-day span.

TSU is coming off an eventful weekend in Edinburg, Texas at the annual UTRGV Tournament as the team held its own in matches against UTRGV, Washington State and Houston Baptist.

Even though the team dropped all three contests, there were several bright spots which occurred over the weekend. Libero Valencia Grayson was awarded with a spot on the all-tournament team after leading the Tigers in digs while Austin Alexis and Jada Hall had solid performances on the offensive end.

“We fell short of our preseason goal (five wins) but we did see a lot of good things that we need to work on, change, keep and get more efficient at,” said head coach Jocelyn Adams.

The Lady Tigers are back on the road this weekend in Prairie View, Texas for the SWAC Round-Up. The round-up will kick off with the Lady Tigers taking on Alabama State at 10 a.m. and Jackson State at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27. On Saturday, Sept. 28, TSU takes on Alcorn State at 12:30 p.m. and Mississippi Valley State at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday, Sept. 29, TSU will complete play against Alabama A&M at 10 a.m. All games will be played inside the William Nicks Building.

“The biggest thing I want to see is execution,” said Adams. “We need to execute the things we’ve been working on in practice. We put a lot of different combinations together and are trying to throw in a lot of fast tempo and different offenses that teams haven’t seen us run before.”
