Volleyball Remains Undefeated After 3-0 Win Over Prairie View A&M

Texas Southern improved to 3-0 in SWAC following a 3-0 win over rival Prairie View A&M Wednesday night inside the H&PE Arena.
 
PVAMU would lead set one 6-3 before TSU would take control with an 8-1 run to lead 11-7. Prairie View A&M would tie it at 11-all and once again at 13-all before TSU took advantage of a pair of PVAMU attack errors and two kills from Thalia Cordero Moreno to lead 18-13. TSU never looked back as they closed out set one 25-17.
 
Set two started in Prairie View A&M’s favor as the Panthers led 15-9 until two PVAMU errors allowed TSU to score two points for a 15-11 deficit. PVAMU upped the lead to 17-11 but the Tigers went on an 8-2 run keyed by three kills from Danielle Lilley to knot the contest at 19-19. A service error by TSU ended the rally but TSU redeemed itself with an ace and Lilley kill to move ahead 21-20. Two more service errors allowed PVAMU to remain in the match as they would knot the contest at 24-all. PVAMU committed a service error to send match point to TSU and TSU took full advantage as PVAMU committed an attack error to close out the set down 2-0.
 
TSU jumped ahead 4-0 in set three before TSU answered with three straight but the Tigers kept their foot on the gas as they extended the lead to 10-4. PVAMU narrowed its deficit to 12-8 but TSU responded and upped the score to 15-8. The Tigers would control the match from that point as they closed out the match with a 25-18 decision and win.
 
TSU is 3-0 in SWAC play for the first time since 2016 and also ended a three-match losing streak to the Panthers.
 
Lilley led TSU with 10 kills and 11 digs while Aeris Ramsey had 12 assists and 14 digs.
 
TSU is back in action on Saturday as they’ll head to Jackson, Miss. for its first SWAC cluster which features three matches against Jackson State, Mississippi Valley State and Alabama A&M. TSU opens up against Jackson State at 9 a.m. followed by a 3 p.m. match against Mississippi Valley State. TSU closes out the cluster on Sunday against Alabama A&M at 9 a.m.
