PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The Texas Southern volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision Sunday evening to Arkansas-Pine Bluff at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
TSU was within striking distance (8-5) in set one until UAPB created separation after outscoring TSU 17-6 to claim a 25-11 decision.
With TSU down 7-6 in set two, errors haunted TSU as four errors led to a UAPB run as the Golden Lions pushed their lead to 13-7. The Tigers fought back through adversity as they responded with a 10-4 surge to draw within 17-15 after Thalia Cordero Moreno’s ace. UAPB scored three straight to lead 20-15 but TSU scored two points off the serve to get within 20-17. Both teams traded points for a 21-18 UAPB lead but that would be the closest TSU would get as UAPB reeled off three straight for match point. Aeris Ramsey stopped the surge for TSU with a kill to make it 24-19 but UAPB closed out the match with a kill to win set two 25-19.
TSU held a 9-8 lead to open set three but UAPB scored four straight to regain a 12-9 advantage. TSU countered and took advantage of several UAPB errors along with a Danielle Lilley kill to knot the contest at 12-all. UAPB went on a brief run to jump out to a 16-13 lead but TSU continued to fight as they narrowed the gap to 16-15. TSU would eventually tie it at 18-all but three TSU errors led directly to a UAPB run as the deficit grew to 22-18. TSU took advantage of a UAPB error to draw within 22-19 but UAPB scored three straight to close out the match.
Lilley, Cordero Moreno and Erianna Murray finished with six kills each while Aeris Ramsey had 13 assists. Cordero Moreno led TSU defensively with 15 digs. TSU closes out the regular season Monday night at Grambling State for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
